On the Kowloon Docks bowling ground yesterday afternoon, Gibson "meeting held yesterday ||(K.C.C.) entered the semi-final of evening at Volunteer Headquarters the proposed Referees' Association was formed, officers elected and rules provisionally passed.

It was not, beat Taylor, Walmsley, Ribeiro, 'he asid, in any way a revolution- ary or bokehevik body, but would meet to discuss any points which might ariee or difficulties which might be experienced by referees. Lectures would be given at month- ly meetings. He said that from his own experience such associa tions had proved most useful, and the proposed, association would be sides giving practical assistance to referees in Hong Kong do a lot towards getting them recognition. It would be in no way affiliated to the Hong Kong Football Asse ciation. but their committee might be able to advise a member in the case of his having been suspended by that, association or present his case for him if the committee con- sidered that he had been hardly used.

Baggested Rules,

Captain Austin had drawn up a zet of rules which he put before the meeting to cover membership. finance, officers and meetings.

There was some diecussion as to the advisability of putting these rules before the meeting, and it was finally decided to adopt then provisionally giving the committee powers of revision, and ordering that the foal draught be submitted to the next general meeting for acceptance. The subscription of fifty cents suggested by the Chair- man was considered inadequate by Mr. Stokes who pointed out the necessity for the purchase of books of reference, cash books, etc., bat was allowed to stand pro tem aa the Chairman assured the meeting that it would be sufficient.

Committee.

The following officers were elect- ed to serve on the Committee: Chairman, Captain Austin; Secre. tary and Treasurer, Mr. Smith; Warrant Engineer Barber repro ienting the Navy, Lieut. George representing the Army, and Mr. Stokes for the civilians.

It was arranged to hold monthly meetings on the first Friday in each

month at 6 p.m., Dotices convening which were to be published in all the local papers, and agreed that the Association should be formed under the name of the Hong Kong Association Football Refereees As- sociation: A committee meeting followed immediately after inaugural moeting.

Of the fourteen pairs in the pre- liminary round only W. Macfarlane (K.B.G.C.) went as far as the fourth round where he fell to Duncan, his Club mate.

..

As has been stated before, it looks very much as if the final pall will be between Taikoo and the Police on the form shewn by their representatives. Ferguson is a hard man to beat, and Clark, if he enters the final, might succeed in doing so but only if the Taikoo veteran is caught on an off day.

BREAKS DOWN.

A DAY IN THEIR LIFE:

Overworked Metropolitan magis- trates are now being asked to pre- side over two courts in one day, writes R. E. Corder in the Daily Mail of July 25th. Owing to the liness of Mr. Clarke Hall, Mr. Ivan Snell, his colleague, had not only to cover his own court at Old-street yesterday but also the North Lon don Court, which he reached at 3.85

p.m.

Yesterday Mr. Cancellor, the magistrate at Marlborough-street, who has recently recovered from a serious illness, again broke down. Mr. H. C. A. Bingley, the Mary lebone magistrate, remarking on this fact, said: I thought the Home Secretary stated in the House

The Aquatic Sports of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps heid last night at the V.R.C..Baths under the distinguished patronage. of HE. The Officer. Administering the Government, the Hon. Mr. W. T. Southorn, C.M.C, not only proved a tremendous and enjoyable success, but also provided fun and amusement both from a sporting and social point of view. I re- fected great credit upon the or- anisers who well deserved the splendid support given to them. The Fete proved great attraction and seating accommodation around the bath and in the balcony of the Club was taxed to the limit.

YAN O.B.U.

A large crowd witnessed the match between the South China A.A, and the Wah Yan 0.B.U. when the two teams met for the first time on Thursday at the pre- ruises of the. Chinese Catholic Society. In spite of the fact that the Wah Yan O.B.U. team included the Ping Pong champion and run- ner-up of Canton, as well as the local champion, Ng Tai Ping, the South China A.A held the lead from the very beginning until 11 p.m., when the match had to be stopped. As mutually agreed upon beforehand, however, the remaining gaines would be played off some time before the end of the present League, and judging by the results already attained, the South China team have every probability of maintaining the lead to the end.

The local champion, although in his best form, found it no easy task to score, and in his match against the South China Captain, he had to content himself with only one game in the set. The Canton champion, Wong Mo Ping, had great difficulty in maintaining his usual form against Wong Tang Hoi and Ko Yau Cheong of South China A.A, as on both occasions all the games went in favour of his opponents. All the matches, however, were very keenly contest. ed, each individual point being hardly fought for
