PRELIMINARY MEETING TO PLENARY SESSION.

SUSPENSION OF CHENG CHIEN.

URGENT MESSAGE TO LEFT WING MEMBERS.

CHIANG KAI SHEK IN SHANGHAI,

The preliminary meeting of the Fifth Plenary Session, held at Nanking under the chairmanship of Chiang' Kai Shek, has" con- firmed the decision of the standing committee of the Central Exe- cutive Council to suspend Cheng Chien, a former member of the C.EC Cheng Chien, who was in control of Hunan province, was suspended at the request of Li Chung Jen.

The resolution to invite the extremist members to attend the Session was also confirmed, and telegrms have been sent to them. Marshal Chiang Kai Shek unexpectedly arrived in Shanghai or Saturday and it is surmised that his visit was made at least partly with the intention of persuading some of these members to attend. The Fifth Plenary Session is unable to sit at present as there in not a quorum, and it is thought in some quarters that the fate of the Session depends upon reconciliation with the Left Wing

Feng Yu Hsiang and Yen Shi Shan, who are not members of the Central Executive Council, have been invited to attend the second preliminary meeting. General Yen Shi Shan, however, is presumably still' at Taiyuan, suffering from appendicitis,

A special commission has been appointed by the preliminary meeting which will examine, all proposals put forward by mem- bers before they are put before the. Filth Plenary Session for dis- cussion.
