BIG WIN FOR LOCAL SIDE.

SHANORAT, July 23rd. Looked forward to with a great deal of interest, for the main rea son, perhaps, that the Services had won the first game by 6 wickets. the second match of the rubber of

three between these two teams was decided on the S. R. C. ground by the play which took place on Satur- day and yesterday, the end coming at 20 minutes past 5 o'clock with complete sucess for Shanghai by an innings and 16 runs. Thus the players of the Settlement made ample amends for their laps on the 16th and 17th of last month, and the final game, which is fixed to be played on September lat and 2nd, therefore should provide a cricket feast of piquant possibili- ties, particularly in view of the

fact that the Services are likely to enjoy the assistance of several capable cricketers from H.M.S. Kent which is now en route to these parts.

The Shanghai bowling reached its best standard and its management left nothing to be desired. With regard to the fielding, it would be better to refrain from comment on some of the work, but to Murray and Palmer fall marks are award- ed for most exceptional catches which dismissed Melsome and Cole man, respectively. Enjoying some astounding good luck, Melsome bat- ted in most praiseworthy style and Coldwell also demonstrated that the bowling could be hit. Isaacs Coctict, at the outset, showed his
