RETURNS.
AND THROUGH CARGO CONTINUE
TO INCREASE.
TWENTY NINE ARRIVALS.
The shipping returns during the 24 hours onded at 9 a.m. yesterday were very high Twenty nine ves sels arrived and twenty left. Of this total ten arrivals and eight departures were British and nine arrivals ware Japanese.
The cargo returns during the past few days have shown a steady in crease. Yesterday's returns were very good, with a very high total for through cargo.
Twenty two vessels discharged general cargo for this port amount- ing to 23,630 tons. Eight British ships contributed 3,858 tons; but the best cargo returns were shown by a Japanese and an American vessel. The as. Jukencum Maru discharg ed 4,251 tons of coal, and the s.. Golden Hind had 9,478 tons from Los Angeles and Shanghai.
Through cargo carried by nine- teen vessels totalled 42,489 tons, and eight British ships carried 11,377
tons.
The best carrier was the 8.3. Lieut. St. Loubert Bie (French) from Dunkerque and Saigon with 7,300 tons while the s.s. Saarland (German) carried 6,100 tons from Hamburg and Manila. The best British carrier was the
3. Ehereun with 3,296 tons Yokohama and Shanghai.

Two vessels made their first visit to Hong Kong yesterday. They are the P.&O. liner as Rajputana, and 1 Benmohr. The former is the sister ship to the an. Rawal- pindi which arrived here some time 180.
The sa. Rajputana is one of the latest additions to the P. & 0. service, and hitherto has been on the India run. Her tonnage is 16,569 and the master-Captain F. G. Gadiz, D.S.O-hus com- manded other P. & O. vessels well known at this port.
She was built in 1998 at Greenock
