YESTERDAY'S FREIGHT

RETURNS.

LOCAL IMPORTS IMPROVE.

THROUGH CARGO REMAINS GOOD.

With twenty arrivals and twenty two departures during the 24 hours a.m. yesterday the ended at 9 |general cargoes discharged for this port showed an increase over the very satisfactory figures of the pre- vious day. Although lower than the previous day's figure the total of through freights was good being only a little under an average of 3,000 tons per vessel..

Seven 'arrivals and nine depar. tures were. British ships, while a fair percentage of the cargo returns was carried by British ships.

Sixteen vessels discharged 15,700 tons for this port of which siz British ships contributed 8,362 tona. The best cargo return was shown by the ss. Hinking (British) with 2,031 tons of general cargo from The as Tjikembang Sandakan. (Dutch) from Haiphong and Hoi how also discharged 2,536 tons of sugar and general cargo,

THREE DEATHS ON "PRES. GRANT."

The 13. President Grant which arrived here yesterday from San Francisco and Shanghai reports the death of three Chinese passengers. Two died from tuberculosis, and one from heart disease. The vessel. carried 100 Asiatic deck passengers.

Asiatis. Deck Passengers. Fifteen vessels brought 1,490 Asiatic deck passengers to the Colony during the 24 hours ended ate am yesterday.

SHIPPING MOVEMENTS.

The P. & Oas. Rawalpindi left Shanghai for Hong Kong on the 17th inst. at 3 p.m., with the mails, and is dus here to-morrow (Friday) at about 7 1. D.'

The sa. Talliwa (B.I. and. Apear Line) left Singapore for Hoog Kong on the 18th inst., and is due bere on Saturday morning.
