As this is utterly ab variance with the Loan Agreement, Mr Beruba refused to grant admission to Chang Ching Yu and his followers. In this he was supported by the British and Japaness Consuls. Mr. Berube stil "refuses to sign away h's rights, but he la apprehensive for his personal safety. He has been ordered to evacuate his official residence within three days, but the British Consul has obtained verbal permission for him to remain in the house for the time being.
Chiang Kai Shek's progress to Peking for the conference with the other Southern leaders secins almost to be assuming the pro- portions" of a triumphal procession. With him will travel Li Chung Jen and Feng Yu Hsiang, while he will be met on the route by other leading generals. Yen Shih Shan, who has now taken up his duties again after his sick leave, is expected to wel- come him at Paoting.

The settlement of the oil price war in India and the Far East has been confirmed by the special oil correspondent of the Commercial Supplement of the Manchester Guardian, who says that the Standard Oil Company of New York has climbed down and has agreed with the Shell group and the Burma oil group to take steps to compensate all former owners of Russian properties in the future.
