MORE FINANCIAL SUPPORT WANTED.
The Mausang College at Kowloon City held its annual speech day yes terday afternoon in the New Kow. loon Theatre' and there was a large attendance of friends and supporters of the institution. The College; as gleaned from the report, has had a very successful year and the school-roll showed an increase of about 100 per seat.

The tale which Hugo von Hof- mannstahl has given his friend Richard Strauss to illustrate is a fantastic and obscure one of Helen and Menelaus on the journey from Troy to Sparto
The curtain rises on the 'great chamber of Aithra's palace, a scene which Bakst and Diaghileff might have conjured up. From the frst notes in which Aithra, played by the graceful Maria Riajdl, proclaims her longing for Poseidon, her lover, to the end of the opera, the eye and the ear are assailed by an over- whelming madness and beauty of erotic passion,
Aithra, lying restless on a couch, refuses to accept the potion of lotus- leaves which à maid prescribes to subdue her passion, and upbraide the all-knowing Shellfish for telling her lies about her lover. This. Shell fish, whose difficult music was aang by the contralto, Helene Jung, from the orchestra, was set on a tripod at the back of the stage, and uz- happily suggested the idea that the Borceress had installed an up-to-date loud-speaker. The contrivance is used by Holmannstahl sa a means for explaining that, Menelaus is about to murder Helen in the ship on which they are returning to Sparta.
"Aithra, help!" exclaims the in- telligent creature, and the sorceress conjures up & storm. The ship is recked, and the Shellfish proclaims that Helen and Menelaus are swim- ming to the shore."
The sorceress leaves the stage, and
Helen and Menelaus enter.

The Suicide Theory. "This is a case in which I would ask you to hear the witnesses and consider carefully.
It is an important and serious case. The case for the prosecution is that there is very strong medical evidence that the man died of ar eenical poisoning, and that the evidence showed that the prisoner was the person who supplied him with all his food.
"They say that on the medical evidence the poisoning extended for a considerable period, and that if the man had been committing suicide he would hardly have con- tinued to poison himself over the extended period for which they say the arsenical effectar were obvious or at any rate existed.”
