About two weeks ago a fresh supply of bad coin made its appear ance. The dates stamped on the coins state that they were made in the 5th, 6th, and 7th year of the Republic. They look comparatively old and somewhat.worn, giving an off-hand impression that they are old coins and therefore good. It is Canton Gazette, no easy job to spot these coins and the merchants and hawkers are. having a hard time. It is reported that these counterfeit coins are be ing sold at 800 to 805 for a hundred dollars.
