RETURNS.
CARGO RETURNS · CONTINUE TO INCREASE.
TEN BRITISH ARRIVALS,
The general cargo returns for the 24 hours ended at 9 am. yesterday continued to show a high figure. There were twenty-tüö arrivals and seventeen departures. Of these, ten British vessels were among the arrivals, while eight left. The local imports were just under 20,000 tons and the through freights were over 28,000 tona. British vessels were best carriers for both local and through cargoes. The total amount of cargo from sixteen vessels amounted to 19,107 tons and eight British ships "contributed 10,998 Sons. A new arrival the as Mandalay (British) was best car rier with 8,337 tons of general cargo from Newport. Mon., and Singa. pore. The local agents are Mesars. Gibb Livingston. The : Tjialak (Dutch) discharged 2,295 tons from Saurabaya and Balikpapan.
Through freights were very good and totaled £9,031 tons, seven British ships carrying 17,110 tons. The Pyrrhus, & Blue Funnol Liner from Norfolk (Virginia) and Manila was bost carrier with 9,300 tons. The as West Ivan (Ameri- enn) carried 3,519 tons from San „Francisco and Manila, The local agents of this vessel are Messrs. Swayne & Holt.

arrived yesterday from Newport, The British weasel s.s. Mandalay Mon, and Singapore with 8,537 this being her furst visit to Hong tons of general cargo for this port,
Kong. Incidentally this vessel was the heaviest cargo carrier for Hong Kong; but she did not carry any cargo for parts beyond the Cotony.
She is commanded by Caplan Waiker and has a crew of 13 British officers and 56" Amistica.
She was built in 1911 by Messra. W. Dendy Brothers of Dumbarton, for the British & Burmese Steam Narigation Co., Ltd., and the Barmah S.S. Co., Ltd. Mesars. D. Henderson & Co. are the London
managers
She had a gross tonnage of 3,529 tons, and a nett tonnage of 3,339 tons. She is fitted as an oil carrier with a capacity of 5,132 tons She has a wireless installation and the usual electrical equipment through out. Interviewed by our represen- tative at Messrs. Gibb Livingston & Co., the local agents, Captain Walker said that this would pro- hably be the only visit of this vessel to Hong Kong. She has a regular The dimensions of the vessel are: run between England and Burmah.
Length 23 feet, width 54.9 feet, and a depth of 28.3 feet. She is registered at Glasgow, and is classi fed under Lloyds Register as A.100. Her mona speed is 12. knots.
An Old Vessel With A New Name.
Quite a lot interest was taken in shipping circles in the arrival yesterday of the s.a. Commandant Henri Riviere from Haiphong and Chinwangtao with 2,000 tons of
coal.
A search through the latest Lloyds Registry failed to reveal the name of the vessel, and it was presumed that she was a new ship. Попетог, on interviewing the Agents, Mesars Karsten & Larsen the Daily Preis, representative w told that she was an old vessel with a now name. She was formerly the Chinese owned vessel Jung Ning, but had been purchased by the Societe Nauticus. She is com
manded by Captain J. F. Nicola, and carries a crow of five French Officers, and 37 Asiatics. She had 207 Asiatic deck passengers for Hong Kong. The firm also remark ed that they were not the Agents, but had merely been asked to enter. the vessel's name. She is at pre- sent anchored off Wanchai, where she is busy discharging her cargo of coal.
The Night Boat To Canton: Sailing. At 10 p.m.

Until further notice the Lungshan and Taishan are to leave Hong Kong at 10 p.m. instead of 10.30. These vessels, have been making very fast trips from Canton and the earlier time of sailing will allow the incoming vessel to come alongside without delay.
Asiatic Deck Passengers. Twelve vessels brought 1,802 Asiatic deck passengers to the Colony during the 24 hours ended at 9 yesterday,
