THE MACAO RACES.

FAVOURITES RUN TRUE TO FORM.

SUPPORT FROM HONG KONG AND

CANTON.

[BY EARLY BIRD.]

Brilliant weather favoured the International Race and Beeres- tion Club's Eighth Extra Race Meeting held at Macao yesterday. After the rain carlier in the week it wae expected that the cour#s would be on the soft side, but under the influence of a strong sun it improved wonderfully and the going was all that could be désired, there being just enough "give" in the turf to suit the little animals which provide us with the "Sport of Kings."

The weather was at its beat and so were the ladies, who appeared charmingly attired in those rich and colourful creations so long associated with our principal sporting äxture of the season. For the most part, favourites ran true to form and there were lew upects-just sufficient to indicate the glorious uncertainty there is in the game. The best performance of the day' was undoubtedly that of One Third who literally ran away with the Second Aggre- gate Stakes registering the exceptionally good time of -4.06.2 for the distance.

Mr. Wong was the most successful jockey who succeeded in piloting three winners. Mr. Charles was next with two winner. Mr. N. Hashim who is a Eeen racing enthusiast brought a big party of prominent Canton visitors to the meeting, among the party was the American Consti-General at Canton. Mr. Hashim's pony Sunming succeeded in winning one race and ran second in another. The pony was led in on each occasion by Mrs. N. Haxhim.

The Macao Artillery Band between the intervals of racing. played popular selections which added to the enjoyment of the afternoon.

ه

تو

On the whole the racing was excellent and there is no denying that great improvements have been effected in the administration of the Race Club by the present Officials. This speaks volumes for those concerned and providing the present standard of efficiency is maintained I have every reason to believe that the Macao Race Chib will continue to meet with support from those members of "the sporting public who are able to appreciate the beneficial results

of the last few meetings.

THE RACING.

Eight out of a field of twenty- nine faced the starter for the open- ing event. It was an exciting scramble four of the eight panics coming into the straight together. My selection, although left at the post suceeded in showing the rest of the field bome after he had pass- ed the distance post. Jaostacy ran second and Ullswater third....

For the Grande Pria Handicap "A" Class, some good class ponies turned out and my tip ran second, The public put their money on One Third who did not disappoint and won casily with plenty to spare Fifty Filty ran rather well and finished second while Little Sit Tang struggled on to gain third place.

In the Midsummer Plate H.E. the Governor's Velox had a wonderful tussle with Castle and My Lady. There was only a head separating first and second with the same dis- tance between the second and third
