Such situations often arise; they cannot be tabulated, for they are too varied in character. Take an other case; nearly all bridge-players are firmly obsessed with the idea that in no-trumps the lead of the fourth best is compulsors. Conven- tion has made it so; and in general it is a very useful convention. But it is obvious that it is no sort of use if your partner does not know the eleven rule and detects no differ- ence between a 2 and a 8. And if your adversaries do know the differ- ence it becomes an absurdity to lead the fourth best; it gives information to your adversaries, and none to your partner; in short it is the one
