CAPTURE OF TAIAN BY NATIONALISTS?
SOUTHERNERS CLOSING IN ON TSINAN.
OFFICIALS AND FOREIGNERS LEAVE THE CITY..
NATIONALIST FORCE APPEARS AT TEHCHOW.
Messages from General Liu Chi to the Nationalist headquar ters at Hauchow yet again lay claim to the capture of Taian Though there is no direct confirmation of this claim, it would appear Official from other mensages that it is very probably "correct. messages from Japanese sources state that on Saturday the Southerners catered Kushan, which is 10 miles south of Tsinan, and that there is heavy fighting to the south and east of the city. If this report is accepted as correct, the fall of Taian seems to be a necessary precedent.
#.
The same messages prophecy that Tsinan will be in the hands of the Nationalists within the next day or two. Japanese nationals have been warned to be in readiness to evacuate the city nod transfer to the greater, tranquillity of Tsingtao. Many Chinese officials also are leaving Tsinan for Tientsin, while large Southern forces age reported to be in close proximity to the city.
A report from the vernacular papers states that a Nationalist force of 30,000 men, under the command of General Li Wan Chung, who received his appointment from the Shansi Tupaa, Yen Shih Shan, have suddenly appeared close to Tebichow. The anessrigo. makes no mention of how the army was able to reach this point, which is the main pivot of Marshal Chang Tao Lin's main defence line, but states that they are attempting to capture the railway antion in the suburbs of the city...
