THE POST OFFICE INQUIRY.
[ROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
LONDON, March 24th. It is expected that we have heard
THURSDAY,
the last of the notorious Zinoviel letter sent here by Moscow in 1984 urging widespread civil and military disturbances in Great Britain. As I have previously pointed out the Socialists were blind to their own interests when they persisted, in raising the question again in the House of Commons, making, o de mand for a fresh inquiry into the authenticity of the letter. M
Prime Ramany MacDonald was Minister and Foreign Secretary a the time it was received, and he has never pretended that it was a bogus production; indeed, he draft ed a protest which was sent to the Soviot Government. But, of course, the Socialists are forced to keep up the fction that in their opinion the letter was a forgery, as other wise they would stand revealed as the dupes or tools of the enemies of this country.

"I married Emperor Wilhelm II. to share his exile and bis Borrow. I did not mazy him with the hope, however remote, of wearing some day the crown of Augusta Victoria. I shall be content with my fate if I can lighten the burden of his banish- ment, if I can give to the exli the devotion, temporarily denied him by his misguided people, Crowned or uncrowned, he is my Emperor and King."
These are the final words of the wife of the ex-Kaiser in" Days in Doorn, by the Empress Hermine, published by Hutchinson and Co.

The demand for an inquiry was refused by 328 votes to 139. In the course of the debate, in which Mr. MacDonald cut a poor figure, the Prime Minister read a statement by Mr. Conrad im Thurn, n well. known City man and a nephew of Sir Everard im Taura. In this statement he declared that he re- ceived a copy of the Zinoviel letter from a pereon in close touch with Communists in this country and gave life in their exiled home. 82. (Week days only).

Mr. Baldwin's disclosure as to the method by which the Press got possession of the letter dished the Socialists completely. Their demand for an inquiry was inspired partly by the hope that perhaps it would be proved that somebody in the Civil Service had betrayed his trust, and communicated the document. Mr. im Thurn's frank disclosure dis- poses of this dark suspicion once for all. The honour of the Service is fully vindicated; and the opinion of the average Englishman is that the Socialists in stirring up the old 'un. pleasantness of the letter have only reminded the public that their ex- tremista have been-and may still be-in league with Moscow against Britain. What a game!

Resisting Corpulency. At 3.45 a. the Kaiser takes re ligious service in the main ball.
He here gives extracts from the Bible and either reads his favourite sermons or else preaches from his own inspiration. After breakfast, which never lasts more than half an hour, he works for three hours in the park. He cuts wood, he saws, and in summer he waters his rhododendrons. Upon his return from work in the garden the Em peror receives reports and examines the world's news gleaned from many sources Meals at Doorn are frugal, and luncheon or dinner really consists of no more than one warm dish of meat.
"His simple regimen, combined with hard physical work, enables the Emperor to resist corpulency," says the Empress Hermine.
The book will give the first reni picture of the ex-Kaiser in exile.
