** The system of Travellers' Cheques was originated in 1891 by the American Express Company with the object of creating a form of travel carrency which would give the holder the security of a lecter of credit and at the same time the convenience of local currency. The Company registered the ebeques under the trade name of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS - CHEQUES : the word "Travellen", being spelled" with The advantage of the Cheques was so apparent that other banking institutions adapted the system.
