EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD THROUGH CARGOES.

There were twenty-seven arrival and thirty-six departures during the week-end, and cargoes for Hong Kong wore average. Through freights showed very heavy returna, the total for the week-end amount ing to 55,987 tons.

Saturday's Statement. Fifteen arrials and nineteen de partures were recorded · ab the the Harbour Office for Saturday the 24 hours ending at 9 am. Local imports were good, while through freights were exceptionally high.

Yesterday's Figures. Yesterday's arrivals and cargo returns were slightly lower than Saturday's figures. Twelve arrivals and seventeen departures were en- tered, while cargoes discharged and carried through were above the Average.

Local imports totalled 11,951 tons with 1,000 tons from two British vessels. The Dutch steamer Tilt roong was best carrier with 2,131 tons of general cargo from Batavia.. Through freights amounted to 17,020 tons, and two British vessels carried 2200 tons. The .s. Sumatra was best carrier with 6,625 tons o! beans from Vladivostock and Moji.

New Light For Breakers Point. A notice to Mariners received from the Maritime Customs, Shang Hai, stats, that "the New Lighting apparatus at Breaker Point wil be completed on or about May 17th, 1028. From this date the new ligh: will be exhibited without further notice..

The new lighting apparatus will be dioptric of the second order, and will be of 818,000 candle power,

The character of the new light. will be group-flushing, white, with- out red, sectors, showing one flash followed by two flashes every 90 seconds, and will be visible 19 miles in clear weather. The height of the centre of the light, above water is 154 feet.

The temporary light which is at present being exhibited will be dis continued simultaneously with the exhibition of the new light.

The Use Of Steam Whistle. Regulation No. 21 under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance has been amended to read:-"No steam- Iship shall use a steam whistle ex cept for the purposes of navigatión as laid down in Articles 15, 28 and 31 of the International Collision Regulations"
