CELTIC LOSES THE SCOTTISH CUP FINAL.

RANGERS FINE FEAT.

SOME SURPRISES IN THE, LEAGUES.

Celtic's hopes of retaining the Scottish Cup were shattered on Saturday by the Glasgow Rangers who secured the trophy by a four goals to nothing victory. This wonderful performance at Hampden Park was watched by a record attendance of 100,000, 10,000 more than the largest previous gathering at a Scottish Cup final. Celtic have won their way to the final stage of the Scottish Cup Competition nineteen times and have taken the trophy twelve times. In winning against Saturday's opponents history of twenty years ago repeated itself.

H

The Hangers have won the trophy twice in the old days and in the 1906-1909 senson they entered the final with, Celtic, whom they have now disposed of. On that occasion they played An, unprecedented soeng two drawn games at Hampden Park. followed the conclusion of the second match owing to a misunder- standing in regard to extra time. Pay boxes were set on fire and considerable, damage was done to the ground and terracing while one hundred parsons were oficially reported to have Been injured. The Queen's Park Club claimed damages and received £500 from the Scottish Football Association and £130 each from the Rangers and Celtic. It was to mark their disapproval of the conduct of the spectators that the Association withheld their trophy, and medals. Another important Cup event on Saturday was the final of the English Amateur Cup Competition. Leyton, last year's wio- mers, retained the trophy by a three goals to two victory..

THE LEAGUE.

In the First Division of the English League, Huddersfield dropped one point, Everton registered a win and are close rivals for honours. Chaises were beaten by the team at the bottom of the table and it may now be taken for granted that this team bas now lost their chance of winning top honours in the Second Division. Manchester City improved their position but Leeds are at the head of affairs. Millwall in the Southern Section won comfortably, while Bradford, leaders in the Northern Section, lost rather unexpectedly to Accrington.

A draw in the match between Motherwell and St. Mirren has. given an advantage to the Rangers, who will now go all out for the "double" event.
