FIERCE FIGHTING ON SHANSI BORDER.
FENGTIENESE APPROACHING NIANGTSEKWAN PASS.
The report of the disaster to the Kuomintang, involving pos sibly the fall of Hauchow ever, seems to have been an unfounded ramour, for not even Northern reports lay claim to anything of the sort. On the other hand, everything seems to point to heavy fighting near the Shantung border with little advantage to either side, though the Nationalists appear to have met with some success. Marshal Sun Chuan Fang has moved up to the front to conduct the Shantung operations in person.
Marshal Feng Yu Hsiang, the Christian General, is making steady progress in Northern Honon, and is actually moving against Changte. His attack upon Taming is far nearer realisa tion that it was a day or two ago. Marshal Feng is extending his army castward to link up with the troops of Marshal Chiang Kai Shek.
There has beer fierge fighting just west of Tsingsing on the Tsingting-Taiyyen Railway, near the Shansi border. General Yen Shih Shan, the Shanai Commander-in-Chief, claims that, in spite of many furious attacks, the Fengtienese have been unable to gain any advantage, while they have suffered heavy casualties.
The Fengtienese themselves, in a report to Peking, state that they have taken Shifashon, and are advancing towards the Niang- taekwan Pass.
