AUTOMATIC PHONES GENERAL LI FUK LAM.
FOR CANTON.
CONTRACT SIGNED FOR INSTALMENT.
AMERICAN FIRM GETS UNDERTAKING.
COMPLETION IN A YEAR.
[гnoм OUR CHINESE COLLESPONDENT.}]
CANTON, April 11th. In accordance with the compre heniive plans for the modernization of Canton, the Municipal Govern. ment is now starting the installa
tion of an automatic telephone
system in the city. The total goal- of the installation will be 88-48,000 Gold and the work will be complet ed within a year from now. AG cording to Mr. C. F. Wong, head of the Canton Telephone Adminiy tration, with whom the correspon dent of the Daily Prees has had an interview, 4,000 automatic tele phones have been ordered from the
United States. While this number is far from being sufficient to meet the pressing need of the city, yet it will suffice for the initial installa tion. The number will be increased from time to time in accordance with the demands.
RETURN TO HONAM POSSIBLE.
It is thought in many quarters } that the return of General Li Fuk Lam to Honam, of which for some 18 years he was “uncrowned king," will not be long delayed. He was expected here yesterday and he "will probably meet Marshal Li Tuni Hsia when the latter returns from the North.

This is the beginning of modern telephone development in Canton The present system, in Canton, while serviceable in many ways, is not sufficient to meet the growing needs of the busy population.
