The match. will be replayed next. Wed- nesday, the 18th inst.

The closing stages of the match were played in fast failing light and it was scarcely possible to follow the flight of the ball in the final games. Play proved very exciting then as the Rumjahns were on the verge of deleat, while the Japanese pair were racing the clock and light to overcome their formidable op ponents. Honda and Akiyama had the match well in hand and on the run of play gave the impression

On the merits of play the Japanese pair should have won, Akiyama played wonderfully well and lobbed judiciously throughout the match, which, coupled with Honda's clever tactics broke up their opponcats* game. Only at volleying did the Japanese show any inferiority to the champions. Honda played ex- ceedingly well and passed his op- ponents with many speedy shots. He was responsible for some smart play throughout and has never played better in a doubles match since he came, to the Colony. An idea of the evenness of the two pairs

shown by the games each pair won. The kumjahon took 26 games in the five sets and the Japanese 25.

The Indians gave without doubt much poorer display than was generally expected and in fact it was their worst performance since they won the championship three years ngo. S. A Rurajahn, the champion, was off-colour. His strokes lacked the sting that won for him the championship last year and many of his smashes went outside. H.D. certainly outclassed his cousin and it can safely be said that be saved his side from defeat. yesterday. On the whole the pair showed bad forta, but should be given credit for their cool uphill fight.

The Play," The match opened in favour of the Rumjahas who took the lead! at 4-2 by some forceful tactics. They then fell off and lost the next three games, Honda and Akiyama breaking up their opponents' game by well timed and well placed lobbing and by some hard driving from Honda.
