THIRD EXTRA RACE MEETING.

SAN DIEGO WINS AGGREGATE STAKES.

GOOD DIVIDENDS AND CLOSE

FINISHES.

(BY RAPIER.)

The first day's racing at Happy Valley on Saturday opened' under favourable conditions and attracted a big crowd. Most of the races were well contested especially the handicap events. San Diego enhanced his reputation and created rather a surprise by beating the Evo ponies and Pickle in the Aggregate Stakes. Mrs. 3. Paterson, who is in Shanghai, had one win and two seconds which is all to the good as the stable has not had much luck recent- ly Alan Gordon had a fall in the third race when near the Judges box bat fortunately he escaped with a few minor bruises. Siang, River paid #000 for a place and this was a Fanling Hunt victory "as the pony was bought for steeplechasing by Dr. Pierce Grove,

the Joint Master, and the jockey was Mr. Morgan, one of the " Whips.

The racing from the publie point of view is very much better than it was a few years ago as there are now very few dead certs and dividends are consequently more satisfactory and interest is - sustained throughout the meetings. Majur Hogg has relinquished his position a Second Starter and his place was taken by Mr.. Bois- ragon who carried out his job in excellent fashion having no doubt been coached by his No. 1 Mr. Fiddes Wilson,

The extra sheet in the race book for 'results is an excellent idea. The course was in good-condition and everything went very smoothly thanks to the Clerk of the Course and a body of Stewards- whose progressive policy is in keeping with the expansion of racing.

Being a conscientious tipster I have hitherto carefully studied form "and followed the training of the ponies. Not being able to do this any longer owing to more important activities I am compelled to give up my racing notes and to hid my readers a reluctant fare- well,
