Probably Bolshevism and salt water do not go well together. Various rumours are current regard ing new Russian naval construction, both in the Baltic and the Black Sea, but it is impossible to get any authentic information regarding this. That the Moscow Government would be only too ready to employ such sen power as it can command for stirring up mischief is beyond question, and probably the whole Red Fleet would have been in Chi- nese waters long ago had there been the faintest prospect that it would ever be allowed to get there.

U.S. EPISCOPAL CLERGY AND PROHIBITION,

MOST CONDEMN IT.

NEW YORK, Feb. Stat. The Church Temperance Society has recently sent out a question naire on the subject of prohibition to the Protestant Episcopal clergy throughout the United States. The replies-read at a meeting of the society held here yesterday-seem to prove that only one-quarter of the Protestant clergy ae in favour of the Volstead Act, and three-quar ters recommend, some modification of the Act.

The principal question asked was, "is prohibition a success in your locality 1" Five hundred and one clergymen replied "Yes," while 1,304 replied No." The majority, of 1,399 over 873, favoured a modi fication of the Act, and most of the rophes expressed approval of come form of Government control, as in Quebec.
