So far as the Rail Government
is concerned, His Excellency has no objection to the arrangement of placing at the disposal of the Community the piece of ground to the North of the Queen's Road, on to shutting up the present Carriage Road, subject to certain conditions; but before answering the Committee's letter, the Governor is auxions to ascertain how for the Major- General may be disposed to meet the views of the inhabitants, -as, if there is any objection the part of the Military

Authorities to the Parade Ground being placed at the disposal of

the Community when not required for Military purposes, the ploun proposed by the Committee cannot
of
course be carried out._
The Major General will ___
observe that the Committee allude
to the ground having been recently claimed by the Respective Officers of Aduance. On this the Governor
has only to remark, that the Board have made this claim, in
his judgment, without any grounds for so doing,-
and
never
as the site is not,
has been in then possession;
in the early days of the Colony, it was indeed lent by the Civil Government to the Naval Authorities, by whom,
under instructions from the Lods Commissioners of the Admiralty,
it was returned to
my
Predecessor
