SECOND EXTRA RACE MEETING.
BENGAL WINS AGGREGATE STAKES.
THE RED FLAG INCIDENT,
CLOSE RACING AND GOOD DIVIDENDS.
[BY RAPIER.]
There was a fair attendance at Happy Valley, on Saturday afternoon and the atmospheric conditions were ideal. The fields were satisfactory and most of the races were closely contested thanks chiefy to the work of the Handicapper, Mr. C. M. S. Alves. The starts were handled by Mr. Fiddes Wilson with his usual skill although his task at times was not an easy one especially in." the fifth racs' where there were 15 runners with a sprinkling of in- experienced riders. The Eva, stable as I anticipated had a good day and Bengal had no difficulty in winning the Aggregate Stakes. He now carries a 5 lbs. penalty and this coupled with the presence of Peck and/or Pickle at the next meeting will make the race more. interesting Harold Seth's victory on bis own pony in the first race was well received as the public always like to see him in the saddle, Other victors were Proulx, Clark, Harriman, Charles Reidy and Usher. After the seventh race the red flag was hoisted in error. and it was thought thas an objection had been raised. This was not the case but the Stewards apparently thought it to hold an enquiry into the running of the race. The public may rest assured that their interests will be properly looked after by the Stewarili but the latter do not expect to have to justify the confidence re.? posed in them by broadcasting the resulting of every conference they hold. by b

The programms consisted of no fewer than 18 items of which the Orchestra of the Sociedade Pi armonica under the baton of Mr. 5. Pinna contributed four items, F. Suppa's overture “Le Burles

(Mr. Wong) vietary. Bright Eve was a bit too far behind when entering the Meeers. Kong Bros.'s Ben Front, straight otherwise he might have. won Sunning. ran badly and just managed to beat Boukra for third place.
San Francisco for some reason started favourite in the third race with Duke of Verona and New Year's Eve next in demand. Out of a fold of six these were the only three ponies in the running and they came Home in order of my selection, namely, New Year's Eve, Duke of Verona and San Francisco. I was ruther surprised at New Year's Eve paying as much as $17.70.
Bengal won the Aggregate Stakes without being pressed,
The fifth race produced the best field of the day and an exciting Snish. Brown Jug just beat Nara Stag (The Grouse) by a head with Fire Call three lengths away. Nara Stag I put down for second place in the first place.
Although there were four starters in the sixth race the only two ponies really interested were my selections Winsome Stag and Caus Bay. They finished in the order names after a terrific struggle from the distafice past.
The seventh race saw Mowgli out again, and he was well backed. Tarzan was, however, made Inv ourite and won fairly easily with Mowgli, and Kom Tong Hail filling the places. Tarzan I selected for a place,
Comrade being unfit his place was taken by his stable companion, Eve. The latter was a hot Boxing favourite and a winner from the start despite his heary impost. Binckstone Hall and Chemal as 1 anticipated filled the places.
