The League Season 1927-1928, As usual, in seasons when a local Interport takes place, the interest in the League assumes a somewhat milder aspect. In both Divisions a result has been reached, and" I tender my heartiest congratulations to the University on their double success. It would be idle to pretend that either of their sidea was of out- standing merit. Kowloon beat the first team and in a played out match would beat them every time. But the University have won on their excellently balanced sides. And if they have no stars, they have no Passengers. Their brilliant ficiding put the finishing touch to their It would be hard to find

Kowloon were the stronger side and the win of their second eleven over Recreio last Saturday ensures them the place of runners-up in the Junior Division. They did well to beat Recreio who are a young and koen side and field well And so, farewell to the Hong Kong cricket season of 1927-1928

In anticipation of a close struggle in the Open Singles between H. Yoshida and I. M: A. Razack, whose match was abandoned on Monday on account of rain when the score Tommy Milligan, the holder, is stood at two sets to one in favour challenged by Ales Ireland, another of the Japanese, a big crowd turned Sect, and both are in perfect-con-up at the Hong Kong Cricket Club dition and well within the weight courts yesterday to watch the re play. The match opened in start Milligan was disqualified for biting manner, Yoshida gaining a love sing low when his was abend ou
set. The Japanese-placed extremely well and kept a magnificent length, points.
which he maintained in the second set, but by this time the Indian player had improved and put up a stiff epposition. Bazack had few openings, so well did Yoshida don trol the ball, and he resorted to a. sound defensive game, engaging his opponent in baseline, duela. Both played carefully and from 2-4 down, the Indian brought the score level. The two following games were exchanged, faulty play being witnessed. By pressing a little, Yoshida put Razack off a good deal and secured the next two games for the set. Following on Yoshida beat his opponent repeatedly and secur ed a substantial lend of Ave games to one in the third set. Razack, however, made a remarkable re covery and in the games that follow ed he had the better of the long baseline duels,, winning five couse- quent games, for which he drew Applaitse from the spectators. He failed to convert bis 6-5 advantage and the Toshids then asserted his superiority by ending the match at 0.7 for a three, sets to love victory. The Japanese played consistently and kept no wonderfully good length throughout, while Bazack struck bad patches at different stages of the match.
