FROCKS AND COATS FOR WARMER DAYS
With the promise of warmer days in the air, París is sending us thin frocks Flowery voiles and chiffons are appearing and to accompany them broad trimmed hats and thin

found three very delightful chiffon frocks in Pamela's, ther were of the rather elaborate order which would be suitable for evening or smart afternoon wear. Perhaps the most charming, and the simplest haa bands of flame coloured and green flowers on a white ground, A. pretty arrangement of handkerchief cascades falls from behind the left shoulder to the hem, and the fullness a slightly drawn to the left hip with a glass buckle. Black lace is used in combination with Bowered
chiffon for the other two models, one with a blue ground and a close pattern in tones of dark red and green, has a cleopatre belt of black charmeuse and inset fares of black las in the skirt. The other is cut on the new diagonal lines, half of both bodice and skirt being of black lace. The chiffon is black in this case, with a very large pink and bine flower pattern, and the fullness at the hip is secured with a diamanté buckle."
Marocain Goats.--
I saw also three smart coats, all of them of the wrap around variety without any fastening, and very plain and chic in cat. The only trimming is the clever use of tucks or straps of the same material.

THE HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, FRIDAY, MARCH 9th,
LAUNCHING THE NEW HATS.
SOME INTERESTING MODELS CHEZ "
* SARRAULT.
The Milliners are launching straw hats, the first favourite is the Bang to, black for choice, but its aspect is rejuvenated by the addition of strips of black felt, and, perhaps, also of a narrow felt brim. Fut a faching strass ornament on this and you have the hat that you can wear forthwith at the restaurant dinners
or ten dances.
An All-White Toque Again,
With this straw model there is another, the all-white toque, which has just been launched. Made entirely of white flowers, it weighs about as much as a small silk hand korchief, and is the full-dress hat of the moment. Contemplating with some pride this creation the milliner turned out a second, in which the delicate white blossoms had all brown hearts, a tonality that adapts the pretty little toque to more than "one toilette."
Prelonging The Life Of Millinery.
Of the first importance in the domain of fashion, hats need to be frequently changed. Their life is necessarily short, and continual, if alight, changes are welcome. There are subtle distinctions governing the wearing of a hat, and whatever its materials it is fragile in one way

SOME INEXPENSIVE DRESSES AT" WHITEAWAY, LAIDLAW'S
Whiteaway, Laidlaw's are show- ing some really very pretty little frocks for summer wear which they have just received from home, Plair but swart zephyr dresses are only $4.95, while there is a nice range of embroidered harn house Voile dresses, frocks for $7.50. which are some of them very smart, run from about $8.50 and are made in a variety of styles.
I was pleased to find that they have a number of new patterns in Namrit voilo which is, I consider, the best for washing as the colours neither run nor fade in the process. The bordered voiles are particularly good this year. Rather less flower garden-like than the 1997 designs, they have the charm of a bordered material without being too startling
particularly liked the design based on holly hocks. I noticed also that they had a number of nice all over designa in black and white

EXCELLENT EATABLES.
THE ART OR FRYING SU
BY A COOKERY ENTHUSIAST,
Most women know how to fry a potato, in the accepted sense of the | term, but I venture to think that fow of them know how to do so in the correct manner-so well under- stood by the French cook.
Very few recipes giva minute in structions on the frying of the
various eatables. That is usually left, aften erroneously, to the know. ledge of the cook.
In the majority of French recipes, the term "to fry means literally,
to boil in fat." This is not nearly such an extravagant and expensive proposition as it sounds, for the fat used for this purpose may be strained and used again · and and again.

Distinction Between Morning And 2. Afternoon Styles, s
For all hats, there are times as Well as seasons. A sharp distine tion must be drawn between the morning and the afternoon hat, while the tailor-made requires o special bat that must not be too fragile or light in style. A hand- soule walking suit can be ruined by an unsuitable hat, and a shabby one can be saved by a good hat that is both correct in style and fresh- looking. Every detail requires at- tention: strass, ornament will shine with fresh lustre if 'briskly brashed from time to time with soap and water, and we may be sure that our friends will notice at once, if we do not, when the brim or the binding of our hat has become the alightest bit rubbed by the for collar,
All Parisian modises agree with Euclid or whoever it was who first realised the fact that the whole is greater than the part. The ensemble is everything, and hats are now made to match gowns and conts as a matter, of course,
