The system of Traveller Cheques was originated in 1891 by the American Express Company with the object of creating a form frarel currency which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and ut time the convenience of local carranty. The Company registered the cheques under the trade name of AMERICAN EXPRESS „TRÅVELERS' CHEQUES' the word 'Travellers' being spelled with
one *1". The advantage of the Obeques was so apparent, that other banking institutions adopted the system."
