In fairness to the Turkish Govern- ment, it must be stated that they have always treated the Russians with coneideration. The entry into Turkey during the years inanedi- ataly following the Revolution, of any thousands of Russians was a source of great embarrassment to the local authorities. They occu- pied many buildings and barracks, and seemed likely to dust the Turk in different trades and professions. But, as the Constantinople news paper Jumhuriet pointed out re: cently, the Russians have also been of use, as they have organised restaurants where cheap and good meals can be obtained Further. more, they have paid their taxes regubris, and have thus helped to swell the revenue.
