In the Proviajonal Court yester day, before Judge Tseng and the Senior Consul's Deputy, Mr. Van- den-Berg, three Chinese coolies, Sung Kei Dong, Wong Ah Nyi, and Wong Ab San, were sentenced to penal servitude for life on eleven' Against them were 13 charges of armed highway robbery, two charges of attempted murder and one charge of murder. AD emphatic protest was made by the Sensor Consul's Depnity who com- pained that the sentences were wo ught and entered at length; into the nierpretation of the law in regard to such cases as recently decided. by the Supreme Court at Nanking.
On February 3rd this year. the accused were before the Court and on this occasion Judge Tseng and Deputy Stevens were on the bench Evidence was given by all three pecused who admitted complicity in certain of the crimes committed, and they were remanded for judg
ment. "
Yesterday they were Grought before the suae Judge and the Senior Consul's Deputy, Mr. Van- den-Berg and, as before stated, were found guilty on eleven charges. and sentenced to imprisonment for life, whereupon Mr. Vanden-Berg entered the following protest on the charge sheet:-

The prize distribution in connection with the Tutorial Institute of Hong Kong was held last night at the Hop Yat Hall, Bonham Hond, and there was also a very pleasing concert, in which both Chinese and English music were played.
An interesting report, explaining the objects of this institution and also reviewing the sports activities, was presented by the Headmaster (Mr. T. E. Yeoh). Dr, S. W. Teo, LL.D.. distributed the prizes and gave an admirable address. There was a packed·· hail.
HEADMASTER'S REPORT.
M. T. E. Yeah (the Headmaster) presented his report, which read:
The past year was more success. ful than, what we had ever hoped to expect. The total enrolment was 101 students divided up into Cinsees to 3. There were 999 school days with a periods.
