In view of the eanlaints made to the Chinese Gional Cham ber of Commerce by the Kowloon Landlord's Associations and other Chinese tenants in the Colony about the spray method of lime-washing recently adopted by the Sanitary Board, Dr. S. W. Tso, pursuant to notien, asked several questions at the fortnightly meeting of the Sanitary Board heal yesterday.
In his reply. Mr. W. J. Carrin (President) gave some interest- ing facts with regard to the system. It was mentioned that calico" wrappers were distributed to tenants to eqver their furniture before" the premises are lime-washed and that after the work had been done, the services of coolies are offered, to the tenant to clean,

It was also stated that the lime-washing of houses either by an cutside contraeter or by the Board is a mintter of choice. A landlord has the right to employ his own continetor if so desired. In view of this explanation many grievances should be removed from the minds of the Chinese inhabitants of this Colony, and, as Dr. Tso sail, the Chinese Press should give a full and correct re port of the President's reply for the benefit of the Chinese com- munity.

It is therefore essential that the furniture and effects of "a tenant should be fully covered be fre line-washing commences, "With the additional wrappers now being made 1 feel sure we shall have an adequate number, but any tenant can ask for more wrappers it his effects are not fully covered, and cannot conveniently be moved out of the way of the lime-wash. Any lime-wash wi dry and harden the human skin. But members will realise that there cannot be any thing dangerous or corrosive in it as our own coolies work with it day in and day out and in using the spray a little must run down the handle on to the coolies' fingers. The application of a little oil e vaseline, after washing on "coming aff duty, is all that is required.
