J.O.J.L. Boal Fired On..

43

On Friday members of the ore of a Chinese fishing junk fired shots at the Java-China-Japan-Line Tjimanurk, while that vessel was approaching Green Island on her way into the Harbour from the South. A large piece of lead fell on the deck of the ship, and is believed to have been from the junk's old-fashioned muzzle-loader, but this appears to be the only missile which actually struck the ship. The motive of the Chinese in this case is hard to understand, for piracy could not have been suc cessfully carried out under the circumstances. The local agents did not regard the matter seriously.
