The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypie" is perhaps the beat film which has been made so far of the Great War. It is peace pro- paganda as is" What Price Glory" but of a different and higher order | although considered purely as pro- paganda probably not so efficient.

What Price. Glory

The Four Horse men " presents us with gallant gentlemen fighting to save their Fountry from the invader, but its lesson emphasised again and again Is of the fearful destructiveness, the misery and waste of war,

We are a little doubtful of the desirability of war films, and the fostering as they must of old batreds, but if we must have them it is at least a welcome change to see a picture of a war which does nat deal with the American share in it.

The Four Horsemon" is the epic of the Marne and of ravaged Belgium. A not very edifying love story, is Woven into, but that matters little, and you may if you' like accept the producer's excuse that Marguerite was redeemed by the war. The story of Marcelo Desnoyers that pathetic Sgure of the wealthy bourgeois is more poignant than the love affairs of the young people. Joseph Swickard is not often heard of, but he here gives a magnificent performance. Through all his misery he never quite losses dignity, though like Lear, he may be childish and dis traught

Mr. J. H. Hunt, who was in the chair read a letter from Major General Luard (G.0.C, South China

Mr. Sutherland (the Chairman of the sub-Committee) then read the Report of his Committee. This re- port showed what a great debt the

my owed to the Y.M.C.A. and also showed how nobly residents and members of the Naval and Military Services had come forward as con- tributors to the entertainments.

The Army's Thanks. Colonel C. Russell Brown, speak- ing for the Ariny, thanked all the ladies and gentlemen who had done so much to make the soldiers' life in Hong Kong a happy one. The Army itself can do much in the way of entertainment, but a sudden in cursion of 20,000 men would have been too much for them without the help of the Y.M.C.A. The work of the Entertainment Committee had served to keep the soldiers healthy, to preserve their morale and their. spirits, and as a consequence the had been surprisingly hospitals empty.

Mr. P. S. Cassidy expressed the thanks of the Directors.

The Geneva Economie, Conference had been followed by constructive work About twenty countries had signed the convention on export nud import prohibitions prepared by the diplomatie conference last month. The convention on the enforcement of foreign arbitration awards had been signed last week by the British Government. While the economic organization of the League was entering on new tasks it was of the utmost importance that all its members should carry out agree ments already made. The ratifica- tion of past economic conventions was by no means universal. If the League was to make satisfactory progress over new ground, they must consolidate the ground already covered.

A correspondent of the Chiengo Tribune, who has left Russia after a three months' investigation of. conditions there, describes in a mesange from Riga the gangs of homeless children, who infest the streeta committing all kinds of offences. He says:

These waifs are to-day respon- sible for more than 60 per cent of the crimes committed within Russia. They are not afraid of the police, for no punishment Awaits them if they are arrested, They may be sent to a children's home if the weather is cold, and if the food is good they may stay a little while. But escape is easy, and nine times out of ten they take several of the other children with them.

The homeless children are the most terrible evil in Russia. They form a gigantic, organised army with which the Soviet Government is absolutely powerless to cope. Not only is it horrible that ters and hundreds of thousands of children, ranging from 7 to 17, fill
