STONE LAYING CEREMONY ·

TO-DAY

THE OFFICIAL PROGRAMME.

The ceremonial laying of the foundation stones of the Wesleyan Sailors and Soldiers' Home on the Praya East takes place this after noon. A description of the building it is proposed to erect has already been published, but although the plans are complete and the work is to be pushed forward as rapidly as possible, it may be noted that the building and equipment fund are still open and a strong appeal is being made for further subscrip tions.

The home is being erected to take the place of the Wesleyan Sailors' and Soldiers Home in Arsenal

Street which is shortly to be de molished under the Government's .Com- rond improvement scheme.

A Sergebht-Interpreter who read the charges out to prisoners at the Central Police Station, said they made the following statements:-

His Lordship: Can you form any opinion as to whether the wound was caused by a direct shot or by & ricochet?

Dr. Craig: The nature of the wound pointed to it having been 'caused by a direct shot. If due to ricochet I should have expected to find more laceration.

Mr. Fitzroy, stated that the next witness, the eleventh, was out of the Colony. He was a Chinese, and he proposed to read the evidence he had given at the Magistracy.

Mr. Li Chor Chi, Secretary of the Ho Hong Bank, was called to prove the absence of the witness in ques- tion, but on entering the witness box he stated that he did not know the man personally.
