SUN YAT SEN.
The Shanghai, contemporary, the North China Daily News" is publishing, in Mightly abbreviated from Dr. Sun Fat Seulk book on the Three Principles."
Considerably more interesting then this volume is the following criticism of their contenta
Dr. Sun Yat Sen's now famous book on the "Three Principles is a series of 18 lectures on what he considered the ideas and ideals essential to popular govern- ment in China. He tries to im presa upon his followers that if these ideas can be instilled into the people and made a part of their political philosophy, China can be saved; that her ruin and extinction are. otherwise inevitable.
Since Dr. Sun's death in 1924, these warnings, and consequently the 18 lectures, have been taken very seriously by the Kuomintang his political following, and have
been raised to the status of an unalterable and inviolable plat fo for the party as from the leader. Those who can demon strate that their thoughts and deeds conform to them are true followers, therefore true members
of the Kuomintang; all others are heretics or renegades. "
Beginning with the title, many expressions in these lectures are dificult to translate into English. They are known to the Chinese as the San Min Chu-i." The words are literally Three People Prin- ciple" In the press they are often referred to as the Three Prople's Principles, which is certainly in accurate. The idea is better con- reyed by the translation which we have adopted, namely "Three Principles for the People."
