(Asiatic News Service,)

PEKINO, Sept. 15th.. Owing to the enforcement of a general retrenchment policy, the Cabinet has cut down the monthly. budget of the metropolitan police from $380,000 to $200,000. General Chen Hsin Ya' sent in his resigna tioa, but it has been rejected by the Dictator, who is persunding him to endeavour to perform his duty to the nation and people at the pre- sent critical moment when the Government is so hard pressed for funds.

General Chen has, therefore, re- sumed his duty at the police head quarters and is devising means to cut down the staffs of the various departments with a view to making both ends meet. According to police information, there is 10 money for the improvement of municipal works so that roads, etc., in Peking are liable to be further neglected in the future.
