BIG FUNCTION TO BE HELD BY SOCIETY..
INTERESTING SPEECHES AT ANNUAL
MEETING.
The 46th annual meeting of the Hong Kong St. Andrew's Societs was held at the City Hall fast evening, there being a fair attendance of members.
The Chairman gave an interesting review of the successful state of the Society's finances and their healthy appearance, and also dealt with various activasies of the Society and the loers sustained through the deaths of members.
An interesting proposal put forward by Mr. R. Sutherland met with unanimous approval. This was that the St. Andrew's Society should extend the hand of friendship as from the Scottish element of the Colony to all Scottish troops in the Colony and hold an "at home, to take the forms of an Athletic Mecties in the near future. The meeting gave. the Committee open, authority to spend all necessary monies on the project, and promised its heartiest support to whatever was done..
Mr. D. Templeton was elected as the new President of the Society and other officers were also appointed.

CHAIRMAN'S SPEECH.. The first business was to submit the annual report and accounts, reference to which was recently inade in these columns
In doing this, Mr. D. Templeton said: In the absence of our Presi- deat it falls on me as his deputy to take his place.
It is with regret and apologies. that Mr. Dyer is unable to presidic to night, but I am sure we are all pleased to know that he will so00 bo with us again. As a substitute I shall endeavour to fill his place and give an account of our steward ship during the past year-the good results being in the main due to our "President's well-known enthusias and generosity.
The Gnancial position of the Society is sound and there is a still further increase of "unda as our credit. Advantage has been taken of the favourable exchange as be- tween Singapore and Hong Kong to transfer our investments from the Strafts Loan to deposit at 5. per cent. in the Hong Kong and Shang. hai Bank in Hong Kong and the incoming Committes would do well to earmark this money for invest- nient in the proposed Hong Kong
Loan at 6 per cent

I noto with appreciation that this balance of $710.48 has been trans- ferred from the Ball Account to the General Account. I feel sure that members will agree that our Ball should pay for isself and stand on its own feet from year to year. I endorse your remarks
Mr Chairman as regards the generosity ot our | President, Mr. Dyer. When viewing the Ball Account, you will, l'feel sure, agree that it was due to such generosity that we have such a substatial balance to- day
Members will, I am confident, also agree to the transference froni Singapore to Hong Kong of bonds and monies contaiced now in our Investment Account, and take plea sure in the prospect of these funds being invested in new Hong Kong Loan.

The setting out in our accounts of the sum invested in connection with the JR.M. Smith Dequest under the heading of Trust Fund will also clarify our financial state- ment and allow members more readily to discern the nature of our various "assets.
With those few remarks, Mr. Chairman, I take much pleasure in seconding the adoption of the an- nual report and statement of ac. counts.
The report and accounts were unanimously adopted.
The New Presidens, Mr. J. W. C. Bonnar, proposing Mr. D. Templeton as the new Pre- sident of the Society, said he had forward.
