It would seem that, after all, the gathering of the Kuomintang is really to take place at Nanking. At least representatives of the "Three Cliques "Nanking, Hankow and Shanghai, together With those of the military-have arrived in China's ancient capital to participate in this historic gathering to-day.

Mr. Wang Ching Wei, the Hankow leader, seems so pleased with the result of his efforts, it re-uniting the Nanking and Han. kow sections that he has announced that he is now willing to retire into the political background. He has already announced his resignation from party leadership.. It is believed, however.. that he is another and a quite different reason for his action, namely, dislike of the Shanghai Kuomintang, who as sup- porters of Chiang Kai Sark, naturally have little regard for Mr. Wang Ching Wei.

Meanwhile the civil wat proceeds apace, the Southern troops -claiming-to-have captured Chingkiangpu, a town near Yangchow on the north bank of the Yangtsze, in Anhui province. Pengpu, however, is still held by the North, but it seems that the Southerners have good reason to believe that they will capture it shortly.
