The third piracy within the last three days was carried out by eight robbers on Thursday evening. The latest victim was the 5.3. "Kochow," a steamer on the Hong Kong and Wuchow run. She was seized and thoroughly loated between Samshu and Talping. The Chiel Engineer, Mr. R. Black, was shot in his cabin and his body was subsequently thrown overboard.

The pirates told the crew that they had spent over $10,000 to bring of this "coup." They had travelled on the "Kochow" over ten times, but opportunity did not come their way. The robbers left the ship quite dissatisfied saying that the haul made was not enough to recompense them for the trouble and expense they had gone to.
