THE C.N.C. SHIPPING DISPUTE.
HOPE AT LAST OF A SETTLEMENT.
MEETINGS BETWEEN THE CONTESTANTS.
ALL THE NEWS, FROM SHANGHAI.
There is quite a strong possibility" that the C.N.C. dispute, which has listed over a month, may be sottled very quickly. Meetings have been held during the week-end between the China Navigation Company and the Guilds' representatives at Shang- hai, the first being on Saturday night, the next on Monday and 'a third last evening. Feeling locally is very optimistic, and na
early settlement is now expected to a dispute which looked as if it would drag on for months.
THE POSITION LOCALLY.
The
In order to avoid. all risk" of prejudicing the negotiations, both the local Guild Office and the local office of the C.N.C. remain re- ticent. It has been ascertained, however, that as a result of the two meetings held on Saturday and Monday certain proposals have been put before the officers. meetings have been held with a view to Anding out what common ground there was on which negotia- tions could be begun, and appar ently some basis of agreement has been found and proposals were. laid before the officers by their Guild at Monday's meeting.
Upon enquiry at the local Guild -Offices to-day, we
were informed
that these proposals were to be re- plied to at a meeting at Shanghai last evening between the Guilds re- presentatives and the C.N.C.
