There is not sufficient grace, elegance, conception, quisite drawing or colour to make this capable picture of great value. The questions raised are: Why is British soldier digging a grave with a labourer? Why in a coffin alongside covered with the flag of the Irish Free State? Why is there a half-burni mansion in the hack- ground? Why are a parson and a squire talking under a treet And because of the subject interest out- weighing the sthetic qualities, these questions demand an answer and matter more than tuppence.
