The Daily Express states that Lord Jellicoe has agreed to edit and supervise a film which deals with the naval battles of the war. particularly the battle of Jutland, from the German point of view,

New Naval Chief.
Sir Charles Madden's appoint ment as Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty and Chief of the Naval Staff in succession to Admiral of the Fleet Burl Beatty has been very favourably received in the Press It is undersoed that the appoint ment will be generally popular, io the Navy, and that it is not im probable that there may be some important changes in anval polies, for Sir Charles is an officer with progressive ideas which are not exnetly in line with the ideas of the Beatty school. The new First Sea Lord, it is interesting to note, is a brother-in-law of Earl Jelliene.
Born in 1882, Sir Charles Madden entered the Navy in 1875. On the outbreak of War he was Rear- Commanding the Third Admiral Craiser Squadron, but was at onco chosen by Admiral Jellicon to serve as his Chief of Staff. This appoint ment he-held until Admiral Jellicoe was transferred to the Admiralty (Continued on next Column.)
Earl Beatty.
Earl Beatty, who entered the Navy in 1881, has held the office He has, of First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff since 1919. therefore, served over forty years His part in the in the Navy. Battle of Jutland is well-known; and endless controversial battles have been fought over Jellicoe's caution and Beatty's dash. Like most people concerned in the business of recording contemporary events and watching the trend of affairs, I have read most of the opinions of the experts on the great sen fight, but there is no possibility of agreement in what has been written.

One must be content to leave it to the future historian to place the work of the naval chiefs command of the British forces in proper perspective, and award them their rightful place in the Temple of Fame.
As First Ben Ford Earl Beatty reorganised the naval staff so as to give the younger men a chance to prove their worth. This earned him appreciation in the Service Over a year ago he had established record by holding the position of First Sea Lord for six years; but for some time he has been desirous of retiring. It may be re called that Beatty served in China in 1900, and was promoted Cap tain, and awarded the medal with clasp.-H.B.
