The Davis group of cinemas has hitherto been controlled by a woman, Mrs. Israel Davis, the wife of a London builder who became a cinema proprietor as the result of the building slump in 1909. Mr. Davis built the first Londen cinema, the Electrio Pavilion, at Highgate, N., and, gave it to Mrs Davis to run as a hobby. The van ture proved a success, and fr. The beam system of wireless, in contrast with the ordinary broad- cast system, whose waves radiate in all directions, transmits only in one desired direction, sending out a shaft of waves like the beam of a searchlight.
