THE COMPLETE RESULTS

The position of the leaders of the different Divisions in the English League remain unaffected a result of the matches played at Home on Saturday. In Division I and Divi- sion II Newcastle and Middies borough, the respective leaders, both draw. Portsmouth, however, by winning in the latter Division have improved their position for going up into Division I, while Chelsea, who are their rivals for second place, lost to Barnsley away. Chelsea still have the advantage of playing less matches than Forts- mouth, but the test will come at Stamford Bridge, when Portsmouth meet Chelsea there. This will prob ably prove the deciding match as to who goes up and who remains in Division II of the two teams..

While goal scoring was by no means prolife on Saturday, there were two notable exceptions. In Division II Darlington scored 8 goals against South Shields 2 gauls, and in Division II (Southern) Bris tol City, the leaders, netted mix- times without response from Luton Town. In Division III (Southern) Crystal Palace scored five goals without reply from Swindon Town, and Queen's Park Rangers scored a similar number of goals against Mertby Town's one goal...

Of course, in Division 1 there were only nine matches played, these arranged between Bury and the Arsenal and Leicester City, and Cardiff City being postponed on account of the Cup final at Wem- A match an Division III bles. (Southern) and one in Division III (Northern) were also not played.

In Division I, four matches were won on home grounds, two on away grounds and there were thres drawn games. Goals scored numbered 24, 14 by home teams, and 10 by away terms.

In Division II, eight matches were won at home, and the remainder

As you develop your character in school sports through adhering to the sense of loyalty to your own team in all difficult circumstances, in abiding by the fair rules of the game, 10 will you put these prin ciples into practice in the battle of life. Out of the dozen or so London League teams only four times have any of then figured in the final. The Spurs won the trophy in 1801 and again in 1921. Chelsea reached the final in 1915, but lost to Sheffield United, and West Ham played in a final tie at Wembley. Both the Arsenal and Cardiff have the same number of points in the League, with the Arsenal having played one match less.
