THE HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, THURSDAY, APRIL 21st, 1927.

GETTING RID OF THE RED
TAINT.
BIAS BAY MAGISTRATE DISMISSED.
[FIOS OUR CHINESE CORRESPONDENT.]
It is a bad thing to have memies at any time, but particularly so in Cantou just now when a tip to the Military or Police that a certain person is a "Red" may man that that person will be arrested and detained in prison for, at say rate, a few days. The Red hunt is now almost ever in Canton City proper but the long suffering non-union workers in the districts are begin ning to have their day. They are able to point out for the informa tion of the militarista that all pro fessional labour tyrants are Reds.
Heads of the police have been instructed to keep a close eye on all residents in their respective dis- tricts who are at all suspected of "Red" sympathy. Printing houses have been told, without say mine ing of words, not to print anything opposing the present regime, and some of the Russians still in Canton have been cleanly qucatoned by the police but no arrests have been made. Last Tuesday, the leading commercial bodies in Canton,, in cluding the General Chamber of Commerce, hastened to pass joint resolutions approving of the sup- pression of Bolshevism.
The military authorities, in lor- Liddag any further persecution of workers who formerly beloaged to Inbour unions under "Red" con trul, have stated that they are not against unionism but that they are not going to allow "Red" domina tion. Ordinary labour union mem- bers have nothing to fear.
The magistrate of Weiyang dia trict, who has jurisdiction over Bins Bay, is to be dismissed, a charge "having been brought against him that he is favourably inclined to- wards the Red faction. This magis trate-Mr. Lo Chuen by name-it will be remembered, gained a con- siderable amount of publicity through his lying report on the alleged British massacre of inno cent villager during the recent naval raid on the pirates' haunt.
