MOTORING NOTES

Á FRACTURED CHAIN. Instantaneous as it was phexpect ed, the right hand driving chain fractured.

It swung round like a Hexible steel whip, hit the intrepid driver and death was instantaneous. He

suffered to pain.

A bachelor with a big heart Parry Thomas had interested him self in the Hospital for. Sick Child- ren, Great Ormand Street, and his friends have started a memorial fund to endow a bed there. May they succeed boyand their highest hopes.

"We all know that the history ́of England · has been made by pioneers, and these attempts of brave men only show that in 1927 the manhood of the British Empire is not dead." Wa agree with the Coroner. Parry Thomas is dead but his name will live as an in- spiration for all gailaat pioneers of motoring..

MOTOR CYCLES.

The designers and manufacturers of motor cycles have reason to ba proud of the fact that these machines are now so reliable that motor cycle trips round the world are not considered a novelty. When one trip was accomplished, two British parties set out and it said that a fourth effort is being ar- ranged.

A young enthusiast toured round Australia and many other long tours over. difficult country have been accomplished.

One enterprising firm of makers has offered a prize of £100 for the best" suggestion for making the motor cycle more silent. The prac tical tests of the silencers are due to take place this month and the resulta will be awaited with great

interest.

It is doubtful whether motorists would cross over to Kowloon.
