REMARKABLE REVELATIONS.
Astounding revelations of the almost intolerable friction existing between the German and Austrian supreme commands, even in the early phases of the war, are con tained in the private letters of Field-Marshal Conrad von Hoetzen- Published recent from a dorff, Fosaische Zeitung.
in the council of war with Falkenhayn and. Ludendorff in Berlin, the Chief of the Austrian Staff wrote, on February 1st, 1915, to his old and intimate friend, Baron Arthur Bol- aide-de-tamp, a general letter con- fens, the Emperor Franz Josef's taining the following passage:
I can't say that I am delight. ed. with my co-operation with the Germans; one must have colossal self-abnegation to work with them; and one must always keep before one's eyes that one must make sacrifices" for the great cause. They are always bragging that they are brutal in their egoism, and they deliberately work with ruthless self-advertise manty hushing
thair failures and boundlessly ex- aggerating the very slightest |
success.

The Queen's cloth-of-gold dress at the opening of Parliament was but another proof of Her Majesty's gilt for wearing becomingly magnificent apparel.
Most women, perhaps, consider themselves posacesors of gift, yet, as a matter of fact, it is the possession of the few only, com- paratively speaking. There is not a woman in the British Empire AT who possesses it more markedly than the Queen.
Great care must be taken with ceremonial and splendid dress, for example, that every accemory is appropriate. Those who saw Her Majesty as she sat beside the King in the House of Lords could not fail to be struck with the way in which her jewels, her crown, and the famous ribbon of the Garter harmonised with her gown.
