36. 23 April. Applying for sanction to the appointment of an additional Chinese Clerk in the Chief Magistrate's Department on £100 per annum, and to the addition of £30 to the salary of the Surveyor General's office.

37. 25 April. Reporting leave of absence for 18 months granted to the Assistant Colonial Treasurer, Mr Mercer, to proceed to England, and arrangements for the performance of his duties and those of the Registration office.
