BISHOP OF VICTORIA ON CAPABILITIES OF WIDE EXPANSION.
ANTAGONISM TO CHRISTIANITY IN FUKIEN.
REV. T. B. WOOD'S CONFIDENCE IN THE FUTURE.
THE ONLY PERMANENT THING FOR CHINESE:

C. R. Duppuy), who is "President and Chairman (er-officia) being in the chair. This was one of the last gather- inga at which the Bishop will be present in the Colony for some time to come, or oz Saturday he goes Home on leave, under medical advice following his recent illness
Encouraring reports from the various Secrâtaries were present. ed reviewing the activities of the year 1928. The Bishop expressed the opinion that although the V.D.A was still a comparatively amall organisation, it was an organisation which was capable of wide expansion..
An interesting address was delivered by the Rev. T. B. Woods, of Focchow, who has been engaged in Christian Mission Work in China for the past thirty years, and has come to Hong Kong, - owing to the disorder and unsecurity following the occupation of his district by Southern troops. Mr. Woods emphasised that although mission work had received a big blow in the Fukien Province, Christianity was still a very live, force, and despite antagonism he believed it would eventually become supreme in Chinn.
The meeting opened with prayer offered by the Rev. H: Copley Moyle.

supplement.
GRANTS:During the year grants have been as follows:
(a) $1,000 to the endowment fund for the. Chinese Church: «
The sum of this fund i to help to provide a permanent endowment Fund for Chinese workers. $18,000 has been sub- scribed up-to-date, $15,000 boing from Chinese sources.
The interest on this amount is used to supplement money subscrib- ed locally, in the different dis- tricts, towards the salaries of Chinese clergy and other workers. (6) $1,000 towards initiating a pension scheme for Chinese work
ers:
It is obviously easier to initiate a pension scheme while the work is small and the numbers, few, rather than later when the work has grown to larger dimensions.
The Chinese Diocesan Synod is anxious to start such a "pension scheme as soon as practicable.
The above grant is to help en- courage such a scheme.
MEMBERSHIP-The membership in England is rather more than s thousand, and in Hong Kong 280.
