MR. DUNBAR WINS THE DERBY.
HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING.
ANOTHER ENJOYABLE DAY'S RACING.
[BY RAPIER.]
The Derby was no doubt respon- ! sible for the unusually large crowd The af Happy Valley' yesterday, weather was cold but not uncom- Fortably so and many of the ladies wore furs which always look smart } and seem to create a general atmos phere of warmth.
1.E. the Governor and Lady Clementi again attended and were met on arrival by the Hon. Mr. 4. M. Bernard and Mr. H. P. White.
During the tiffin interval the Band of the K.O.S.B.'s marched up and down the Sand track dis- coursing inspiring music which was enjoyed not only by the Europeans preans but by a very large number of Chinese who were congregated on the Golf Course...
The Derby as usua! enriched quite number of people through the melium of sweeps and one of the ucky winners was Mr. G. E. Ellama who collects over $20,000 in the Chinese Chab sweep.

The Racing.
The first race gave Mr. Wallace his initial win and a cup which was well deserved as he is an unusually keen rider.
Mr. Dunbar picked up an easy win in the Exchange Plate on Chesapeake Bay and there was a grim fight for second place between The Goblin and Attaboy, which re- sulted in a dead hent.
The Derby was a most disappoint-

the public and inore especially the holders of sweep tickets only three ronics faced the Starter. Bay, as I anticipated, won very easily with Canadian weil behind and Misty Ere cantering Home. Mr. Dunbar, received a well deser. ved ovation when he led his pony in as he has met with triumph and disaster in the same spirit. His support of racing in bad times and in the face of.ill lack fully merite all he has coming to him now in the shape of wins.
Skidpa's win in the Subscription Griffins Challenge Cup produced $36, the first good dividend of the day. Mr R. J. Faterson won the same race last year with Dobbin and the Subs. Challenge Cup now becomes her property. As she wOB
responsible for obtaining the tbscription grifius under very difficult circumstances her success kave great satisfaction.
San Francisco Bay again.brought Mr. Duabar's stable into the lime light by winning the Great South- ern Stakes in easy style.
ין
The Lusitano Cup proved a struggle between Battle "Eve and Denverates and in some ways it is a pity that Mr. Rods did not win the cup presented by his Club.
Brigade Call won the Challenge Cup as I predicted he would, in the absence of Attaboy, but he was all in at the finish.
Mr. Rozs upset the field by win- ning the Royal Navy Cup on Barley Grass and paying a very handsome: dividend of $120.00. There wAS D big field which made the win all the mere creditable.:
r
Mr. Bokoloff got his first win on Canadian in the Black Rock Stake which was not unexpected.
The last race saw Saligia qualify ing for the Champions by winning two lengths from Ukelele. Saligia is, in my opinion a mile pony and I do not look to him doing much in the Champions to-day,
The Jockey Club machinery seems to go more smoothly each time it
ia used, and those working it
are to be congratulated on their efficiency.
