A cumbersome instrument made of cast-iron and weighing nearly one hundredweight was the first phono- graph, invented by Edison nearly fifty years ago. A replica of longs to Mr. Heary Edmunds, a London engineer, who bas kept it for many years in the attic of his house at foulscombe, Brighton.
This copy was presented to him by Edison because he heard the first words spoken by the phono graph in America, and brought nows of the invention to England. Mr. Edmunds' phonograph is principal part
