When an Indian Constable, who was on patrol duty on Cheung Sha Wan Road, saw Chinese roaning

about with a pair of handcuffs on his wrists he promptly took his charge, and the story of how the

Мад got manacled was told in Court yesterday morning when he appeared before Mr. W. Schofield, at the Central Magistracy.

The defendant was caught by some forest guards just before mid-night on Tuesday when he had in his possession 50 catties of pins wood. Mr. Twemlow, who prosecuted, said that the damage done to the trees amounted to $30.

Defendant, immediately after his arrest, was handcuffed, but he managed to escape from the forest guards and was on his way to find a blacksmith to take the handcuffs off when the Indian constable saw him and took him into custody.

His Worship imposed a fine of $75 or. six weeks' hard labour.
